Saab asks UK gov’t to give biofuel incentives
Automobiles running on an E85 bioethanol fuel are more capable of producing better mileage and can also guarantee to emit less harmful gases. This technology has been seen by the Swedish automaker Saab, which is one of the few auto brands that utilize that supports the E85, as one of the best breakthroughs in the industry that the government ought to support. For that, Saab is asking the UK government to give more incentives for those drivers who will go for the E85 bioethanol.
There are 900 and 127 pumps in Sweden and France, respectively. Moreover, the government of both countries give off incentives for those automobile owners that will use the biofuel. The fuel pump count in the United Kingdom, however, is far different compared to Sweden and France because there are only 16 fuel pumps that provide E85 bioethanol. Before the year ends, five more pumps will be available. Only the cars being sold by Ford and Saab are the only ones that are capable of running on biofuel in the UK. By next year, Peugeot will also produce cars that can work with the E85.
It has been proven that automobiles running on E85 bioethanol can produce up to 25 percent better mileage than those utilizing the standard petrol. Moreover, a vehicle with the biofuel in the system is more environment-friendly because it emits as much as 60 percent less harmful gases. These are just some of the benefits one could acquired with the biofuel, thus Sweden-established Saab is asking the UK government to give out more incentives so that more people will be enticed to use the biofuel.
“The strong UK fleet market can make a tremendous difference, starting with the government’s own fleet of vehicles,” said Saab chief executive Jan-Ake Jonsson. “It is strange why London’s mayor has still not granted E85 an exemption from congestion charges.”
Saab strongly supports the biofuel technology by utilizing the said innovation in the engine. Among the Saab parts that benefit the E85 bioethanol are the engine and the exhaust systems. Aside from producing as much power, biopower models of Saab been made pro-environment.
“True, it (E85 bioethanol) is not the silver bullet that is going to slash pollution from cars in the near future, but bioethanol will be one piece of the solution,” said Jonsson.
